“Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht.” Silent nights, gently falling snow, crisp winter air, crunching snow underfoot, tree cutting, the smell of burning birch, and the beautiful music; we all have our big reasons for enjoying Christmas. So in spite of the hustle and bustle of December, let’s not forget to walk slowly, breathe deeply, and reflect on the incredible gifts of the season.

With all of the important work left to be done before the break here at MES it may not always be peaceful and calm, but we will celebrate the organized enthusiasm here in the building. While student engagement looks, sounds, and appears different, at times, I have personally witnessed much kindness, respectfulness, authentic collaboration, healthy communication, strength of character, and citizenship that leaves me feeling hopeful about what is to come.

Mrs. Nickel, Administrative Secretary, Retirement

We will be saying a fond farewell to Mrs. Nickel very soon and it’s hard to collect the significance and feelings of the moment in a few short words from MES staff, but we’ll try:

“Oh I’ll tell you exactly what I love about Susan!” Creativity. Sense of humour. Flat out she makes me laugh. She goes out of her way to make me feel comfortable and welcome. She can always brighten my day. Milk Week is milk week, and she puts the extra spark in all the little and big things she does for others. She goes above and beyond. Every time I ask her for something, she gives me her best. I love the fact that she can trade punches. Her friendly demeanor. Laughter. She does it all, just another day in the office. “When I hear the distinct sound of Susan’s voice on the phone, I know everything’s under control and that she will undeniably know the answer, or how to find it.” Mrs. Nickel leaves behind a legacy of care, love for others, faithfulness, and healthy relationships. When we hear the following words from Ed Cunnigham, we think of you Susan, “Friends are those rare people who ask how we are and then wait to hear the answer.” All the best in your future endeavours.  – MES Staff
